Matt High Jumping

I’m a former International High Jumper and I graduated with a first class degree in sculpture. My career started slowly - at 19 I had a pb of a mere 1.95m, not quite my head height. Recognising the need to exploit every potential margin of gain I searched for the perfect mindset over my 15-year career. My lifetime best was 2.26m, making the top 20 UK All Time list and just 3cm short of what won the Olympic Silver 2 years later. However, in the year that followed my best I ruptured a disc in my neck, leading to surgery and its replacement—an injury that would end many careers, I started from scratch - eventually clearing 2.25m before retirement. My persistence and resilience were realised through the discovery of the Three Principles understanding of psychology. It was during a coaching conversation that an insight changed my life. I now share this understanding with athletes and business people to guide them to their own source of flow and peak performance.

Having spent the first 33 years of my life focused on myself, I was completely unprepared for what was on offer to me next. The arrival of my first son and the start of my coaching business shifted my life from gain to service, and how much more fulfilling this has been.

I know what it’s like to train and perform at the highest level, to put everything on the line and fail. I don’t have the Hollywood story of medals and records to dazzle you with, but through my mistakes and failures I found the secret to peak performance and enjoyment in sport and beyond.
