The journey…

Can I share something with you? It’s a journey that I see again and again, and it breaks my heart.

It’s a journey that I’m so familiar with because it was my journey.

You started your sport because you loved it. The pure joy of doing it.

You naturally wanted to spend as much time as you could doing it. With practice came competence, and you progressed. Perhaps at one point, you realised;

“I could be really good at this!”

So you doubled down on your sport. Paying attention to the details, all of the things that make a difference. Whether that was your warm-up, sleep or nutrition.

And it works right. It makes a difference; you progress, but here’s the kicker.

At some point, the sport you once loved becomes less fun.

The nerves before a competition become bigger; there’s more at stake.

The losses weigh heavier; they become harder to shake off.

Before you know it, your sport has become a burden. You want to be free from this thinking without reducing your commitment. But how?!

How do you relive the joy, freedom and lightness you used to have? Everywhere you seek help, talks about how to cope with the pressure like it’s a constant. And yet you remember that day when everything clicked despite it.

You don’t know how, but with the utmost ease and flow, you performed better than you ever have before.

The tragedy I see all too often is that people either quit out of sheer frustration;

“it’s no longer worth it.”

“I don’t enjoy it anymore.”

“I need to protect my mental health.”

OR if the results are “good enough” they soldier on, hoping that the next match, tournament, or year will be different.

For me, it was the latter. For my client Owen, it was the former. When we met, he was close to quitting. A mental block was stopping him from taking off. He couldn’t pole vault or see a way forward apart from quitting.

Fast forward to the following season, and he improved his best from 4.90m to 5.45m. A staggering 55cm! The above photo is from the Commonwealth Games, where he came 5th. Needless to say, he rediscovered the joy and freedom that we all once had in abundance.

At this point, you might be thinking one of two things;

“But how?!”

Or

“Well, it’s alright for Owen, but it’s different for me because…”

Now, whilst what I offer might not resonate with everyone or be the right time, it can work for everyone. This is because what made such a difference for Owen, myself, and my other clients was understanding the fundamental laws behind how our psychological experience works for all human beings.

This understanding gives you a Clarity Compass, a means to navigate sport and life—a way to direct yourself away from the rocks of pressure, doubt and negativity into the open water.

When we understand how a system works, our decisions become informed, and the outcomes naturally get better.

“What you will get with Matt is a deeper understanding of yourself, turning your previous perspectives completely upside down. This not only enhanced my tennis performance but helped me be a better version of myself off-court.”

When you want more than hope to rely on, and before you quit, I want you to know I’m here.

With love,

Matt ✌🏻
